“…The high correlations in this study are inconsistent with results reported by Amabile (1982), Christiaans (2002), and Trowbridge and Charles (1966), who found little relation between technical skill and originality. There are several possible reasons for these discrepancies.…”

“…A factor analysis revealed two similar factors in both groups of judges, the first seemingly related to "Hedonic tone" (Berlyne & Ogilvie, 1974) and "evaluation" (Tucker, 1955, cited in Osgood, Suci, & Tannenbaum, 1957, and a second factor, "dynamism." Three judges trained in art education evaluated the technical competence and creativity of the paintings on 11-point scales.…”

“…Findings regarding the relationship between creativity and technical quality are contradictory. In the study of Trowbridge and Charles, the hypothesis that creativity and technical competence can be separated into two distinct variables is confirmed with a correlation of nearly zero (Trowbridge & Charles, 1966). In contrast, in the studies of Getzels & Csikszentmihalyi (1976) and in most of Amabile's (1983) studies, the relationship between the two is quite strong.…”

“…Simon (1984) believed that creativity and drawing techniques are not two separate abilities, since they are expressed together. However, other studies have found the relation between creativity and drawing skills to be weak (Trowbridge & Charles, 1966;Amabile, 1982) or only moderate (Chan & Chan, 2007). The present study aimed to explore specifi c age, cultural, and socioeconomic eff ects on Taiwanese children's creativity and drawings.…”
