Creating and Implementing a Mixed Method Research Study

Abstract: This chapter serves as a guideline for outlining the core characteristics of mixed methods research (MMR) and the various steps researchers undertake in order to conduct a research study. The purpose is to create a worksheet assisting the researcher step by step from beginning to end following the seven steps to conducting research. While the focus is on MMR the steps are similar for any type of research methodology. It is important to note that MMR is not a limiting form of research. Researchers need a MMR qu… Show more

“…There remains a need for further use of alternative methods. In particular, resident attitudes towards tourism development may be expected to be affected by a community’s culture and using qualitative methods will help scholars to understand these cultural differences (Baran and Jones, 2016). There is also a lack of use of mixed methods to collect and analyse data on residents’ attitudes literature based on a pragmatic approach (Teddlie and Tashakkori, 2003).…”

“…The research used a mixed-method approach that has a long and storied history of efficiently addressing critical issues in behavioural, social, and human sciences (Teddlie & Tashakkori, 2009). According to Baran and Jones (2016), it delivers improved cross-discipline knowledge and successfully finds more reliable and appropriate solutions. For Creswell and Clark (2011), this technique is more engaging and effective than its competitors due to its rich philosophical integration and pragmatism.…”

“…The qualitative study employs a maximum variation sampling strategy to ensure a diversity of demographic and clinical characteristics [ 27 ]. Fifteen Veterans from each of the face-to-face-CPE, tele-CPE and EUC groups respectively are interviewed by telephone for 45–60 min using a semi-structured interview guide based on the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) [ 28 , 29 ].…”
