Craniofacial Injuries From Slip, Trip, and Fall Accidents of Children

Abstract: Childhood craniofacial injuries resulting from STs are more prevalent than are those that were sustained in falls; however, the latter is associated with greater trauma morbidity. The incidence of childhood craniofacial injury appears to be associated with the level of development irrespective of event type. The home is a potentially dangerous environment for children, especially during the preschool years. “…In this region, in a related study about falling from the roof, %49,4 of the patients were noted as under 10 years of age and mortality rate was noted as %5,8 (Yagmur et al, 2004). The risk of accidental fall from height is most common among preschool boys and younger children because their neural control mechanisms, sensory systems and cognitive abilities associated with hazard awareness and avoidance skills are insufficient (Chang & Tsai 2007). According to some studies, the head region is the mainly affected region in the body system (Cassidy et al, 2003, Champion et al, 1989, Potoka et al, 2001, Osmond et al, 2002, Hall et al, 1989.…”

“…Crianças e adolescentes constituem uma população distinta, quando se avaliam a distribuição e as consequências das lesões traumáticas, envolvendo face e dentes, em razão das características anatômicas, fisiológicas e psicológicas (Chan et al, 2004;Chang;Tsai, 2007) que os diferem da população adulta quanto ao prognóstico (Costello et al, 2005;Dourado et al, 2004).…”
