“…We found that almost two out of ten participants (19.2%) were afraid of COVID-19. This differs from what was found in our country by Caycho et al, who reported twice the incidence of fear of COVID-19 (42.5%), and 43% of the sample reported being very afraid of losing their lives to COVID-19 (46). On the other hand, in Spain, Lázaro-Perez et al found a four times higher incidence (80%) of fear of their own or others’ death due to COVID-19 (47).…”

“…The severity (2,17) and high transmission rate of COVID-19 (18,19) has created fear in people (15,20), who, by being misinformed, have suffered the psychological impact due to the concern of becoming infected and infecting their loved ones (20,21). A total of 30.5-41.8% of fear of COVID-19 in various populations has been estimated (22,23), even a study conducted in Peruvian policemen found that 42.5% were afraid of COVID-19 (24). In Latin America, an average percentage of 15.54 on the scale of fear of COVID-19 has been described (25), which is among the lowest, compared to other continents (21.7-23.8) (23).…”

“…The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic is the largest public health emergency the world has ever faced in recent memory. Various studies have described the mental health problems associated with this pandemic in different groups such as healthcare workers (Muller et al, 2020 ), clinic patients (Hu et al, 2020 ), adults (Wang et al, 2020 ; Xiong et al, 2020 ), police (Caycho-Rodríguez et al, 2020 ), school children (Chen et al, 2020 ), and university students (Khan et al, 2020 ). In this context, university students are a particularly vulnerable group to develop mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety (Auerbach et al, 2019 ), and insomnia (Sivertsen et al, 2018 ) since they are generally in a transition stage in their academic, professional and personal life (Acharya et al, 2018 ; Zivin et al, 2009 ).…”
