Covalently Silane-Functionalized Antimonene Nanosheets and Their Copolymerized Gel Glasses for Broadband Vis–NIR Optical Limiting

Abstract: Two-dimensional antimonene has many potential applications for its high mobility, high stability, and tunable band gap. The covalent chemistry of antimonene and the molecular doping or hybrid of antimonene remain incomplete for further applications. In this work, silane-functionalized antimonene nanosheets and their copolymerized organically modified silicate gel glasses are designed and prepared. The experimental data confirmed that 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane interacts covalently with antimonene. Compa… Show more

“…Nonlinear optics describes the unique interactions of light and matter and has become the basis of many key techniques in modern optoelectronics. Nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have enabled various photonic devices such as pulsed lasers, optical modulators, and laser protection devices. NLO materials with saturable absorption, in which the absorbance decreases with increasing laser intensity, are used to fabricate saturable absorbers (SAs) in resonant cavities to produce ultrashort laser pulses with ultrashort and high peak power, which are widely applied in advanced molecular spectroscopy, micromachining, biology, and medicine . Organic dyes have been eliminated as SAs due to their short lifetimes, high toxicity, and poor light stability.…”

“…Recently, silane functionalization by our groups has shown tremendous development prospects for optical materials and devices in other nanomaterial fields such as hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets, graphene, antimonene, gold nanoparticles, and others. [75][76][77][78] The strategy find a new type of functional materials. More importantly, a novel method of fabricating hybrid materials was put forward, which can further broadening application areas and promote the intersection between various functional nanomaterials.…”

“…On the other hand, NLO properties can be well studied in solution, but it is essential to incorporate NLO materials into a solid-state matrix for further practical application. 1,49 One attractive approach is the sol-gel glasses technique, especially, organically modified silica (ORMOSIL) gel glasses. 50 It is an ideal matrix for a solid device due to its advantages including a high threshold of laser damage, good transparency in the UV-LW NIR region, and excellent optical, thermal and mechanical properties.…”
