Coupled optical and thermal analysis of large aperture parabolic trough solar collector

Abstract: Summary Large‐aperture parabolic trough solar collector (PTSC) has the potential to improve the performance of the solar field and also to reduce the capital cost of the power plant. In the present study, coupled flux distribution and thermal analysis of large aperture PTSC are presented by incorporating the limb darkening effect. MATLAB tool is used to develop the in‐house model to obtain the circumferential flux distribution on the absorber surface. The analyses are performed for different Sun shape models, … Show more

“…Furthermore, the manufacturing capability for a large aperture concentrator (7-10 m) is considered in accordance with Euro Trough, i.e., total optical error of 8 mrad. [46] The flux distribution results are provided in terms of local concentration ratio (LCR), which is a ratio of the local flux intercepted at a point on the absorber to flux on the aperture of the PTSC.…”

“…But such absorber size is not commercially available. Hence the larger and [46] Copyright 2020, John Wiley & Sons Ltd. immediate next available absorber size of 90 mm is considered for the analysis. Therefore, the flux distribution of the 7 m aperture PTSC with 80 and 90 mm absorber size is provided in Figure 8.…”
