Counselor personality and level of functioning as perceived by counselees.

Abstract: This study was concerned with the relationship between measured personality factors and counselor function as judged by counselees. The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF) was administered to 22 counselors who counseled with 880 prospective college freshmen. Subsequent to three counseling sessions, each counselee rated his counselor on "unconditional positive regard," "empathic understanding," "congruence," and "trust," using the Relationship Inventory.
