Por otro lado, la tos crónica suele ser resultante de procesos que se alargan en el tiempo y que tienen, por lo general, un origen no infeccioso 6 .…”

“…Es importante preguntar si ha recibido algún tipo de tratamiento y qué efecto ha tenido éste sobre la tos, interrogar sobre factores ambientales que puedan perpetuar este síntoma (tabaquismo familiar, asistencia a guardería, convivencia con animales, presencia de irritantes ambientales) y buscar síntomas/signos de alarma (comienzo neonatal, tos durante la alimentación, tos de comienzo brusco, tos con expectoración purulenta, sudoración nocturna, pérdida de peso asociada o signos de patología pulmonar crónica). De esta manera, luego de una evaluación clínica, los niños con tos aguda no suelen requerir la realización de estudios complementarios para poder realizar su diagnóstico y para definir su tratamiento 6 .…”
