Cost–utility and cost-effectiveness of physical exercise during adjuvant chemotherapy

Abstract: Onco-Move is not likely to be cost-effective. Depending on the decision-makers' willingness-to-pay, OnTrack could be considered cost-effective in comparison with UC. Trial registration Clinical trial registration number of the Netherlands Trial Register-NTR2159.

“…A comparison of OncoMove and OnTrack found that OncoMove was unlikely to be cost‐effective apart from very high willingness‐to‐pay thresholds. OnTrack, in contrast, had an incremental cost‐effectiveness ratio compared with usual care of €26,916 per quality‐adjusted life‐year, which falls within some endorsed willingness‐to‐pay thresholds …”

“…Center‐based, clinician‐supervised programs are notably more expensive. For example, OncoMove, a home‐based, self‐managed exercise program, costs $53 per patient, whereas OnTrack, a physical therapist‐supervised, facility‐based exercise program, costs $866 per patient . Both programs extend from the first chemotherapy visit to 3 weeks after the last chemotherapy visit.…”

“…It is also interesting that treatment rates for remediable physical impairments in cancer rehabilitation are lower than 2% [57]. There are still too few cost-benefit analyzes for the implementation and conversion of rehabilitation programs [58]. However, physical activity can and should be integrated into regular routine care and should be adapted to individual circumstances among breast cancer survivors [59].…”
