Cost optimal self-consumption of PV prosumers with stationary batteries, heat pumps, thermal energy storage and electric vehicles across the world up to 2050

Abstract: Globally, PV prosumers account for a significant share of the total installed solar PV capacity, which is a growing trend with ever-increasing retail electricity prices. Further propelled by performance improvements of solar PV and innovations that allow for greater consumer choice, with additional benefits such as cost reductions and availability of incentives. PV prosumers may be one of the most important enablers of the energy transition. PV prosumers are set to gain the most by maximising self-consumption,… Show more

“…Other world regions may follow quite soon. LDV BEV may grow even faster for end users that have the opportunity for solar PV self-consumption, since it accelerates LDV BEV phase-in, due to enhanced economic performance of even lower costing electricity supply and even higher storage flexibility, all over the world [151], and also for tenements, as analyzed for the case of Germany [152]. FCEV emerges as the second least LCOM in all road transport segments, and HDV and LDV FCEV may evolve as a second option, or at least a backup solution, in case BEV does not develop as fast as projected.…”

“…Solar photovoltaics (PV) is already the cheapest form of electricity generation in many countries and market segments . Especially, utility‐scale PV has broken many records of the world's lowest power purchase agreements (PPAs) .…”

“…It is still an open research question the degree to which these factors affect the sizing of the BESS. Another fact that should be considered is the unit cost of Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) based stationary BESS which is of order of 300-400 €/kWh [44,45], i.e., much cheaper than that of the ultracapacitors.…”
