“…Of the 29 species that were not previously detected in humans, 11 were previously recognized taxa. Among the main discoveries, the present study was able to isolate 18 different new species and genera ( Cresci et al, 2016 ; Morand et al, 2016a , b , c ; Brahimi et al, 2017a , b , c , d ; Niang et al, 2019a , b ; Yimagou et al, 2019 ) ( Table 2 ). Of these, seven (39%) were detected in several projects.…”

“…More than 50% of the strains in groups A, B, C, F and K were isolated from humans, mostly associated with clinical infections ( Figures 2 , 3A ; Supplementary Table 1 ). All five species in group C were isolated from humans with clinical associations ( Supplementary Table 1 ; Figure 3A ) except for Corynebacterium urinipleomorphum , which was isolated from urine of an infant with rotavirus gastroenteritis ( Niang et al, 2019 ). Corynebacterium urinipleomorphum strains have also been isolated from other clinical sources, e.g., from a patient with gallbladder infection along with other bacterial species ( Backert et al, 2018 ).…”

“…Recently new species of Corynebacterium have been identified from human urine samples including C. urinapleomorphum Marseille-P2799 T [15] and C. phoceense MC1 T [16]. Neither has been found to be the causative agent of infection.…”
