Corrosion performance of atmospheric plasma sprayed alumina coatings on AZ31B magnesium alloy under immersion environment

Abstract: a b s t r a c tPlasma sprayed ceramic coatings are successfully used in many industrial applications, where high wear and corrosion resistance with thermal insulation are required. The alumina powders were plasma sprayed on AZ31B magnesium alloy with three different plasma spraying parameters. In the present work, the influence of plasma spray parameters on the corrosion behavior of the coatings was investigated. The corrosion behavior of the coated samples was evaluated by immersion corrosion test in 3.5 wt% … Show more

“…If there are numerous insignificant model terms, then the model reduction can boost the model’s performance. F-value of 1.99 corroborates that the Lack of Fit is not considered as significant related to the pure error 44 . There is a 22.92% chance that a Lack of Fit F-value at this quantity might take place because of noise.…”

“…A wide range of techniques, such as chemical conversion coating , physical vapor deposition (Ref 9, 10), spraying (Ref [11][12][13], plating (Ref [14][15][16], and laser surface modification ( Ref 17,18), have been employed to improve the corrosion resistance of Mg and its alloys. But recent studies have focused on the MAO process (Ref .…”

“…Taking an example of alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) coatings sprayed onto steel substrates using thermally sprayed techniques, have been used in aircraft parts because of their wear resistance properties (Thirumalaikumarasamy et al 2014). Figures 3.50 and 3.51 shows some of the manufacturing features and defect in thermally sprayed coatings (air plasma spray-APS and high-velocity oxy-fuel-HVOF).…”
