Corrosion Inhibitors: Natural and Synthetic Organic Inhibitors

Abstract: Corrosion is a major challenge in various industries and can cause significant damage to metal structures. Organic corrosion inhibitors are compounds that are used to reduce or prevent corrosion by forming a protective film on metal surfaces. The present review article focuses on natural and synthetic organic corrosion inhibitors and their classifications, active functional groups, and efficiency estimations. Furthermore, previous studies on the use of natural and synthetic organic inhibitors are discussed, al… Show more

“…Conventional corrosion inhibitors frequently incorporate toxic elements such as heavy metals and hazardous organic compounds. 100 These substances pose substantial threats to the well-being of humans throughout their lifecycle, from production to disposal. Those engaged in the manufacturing and application of these inhibitors encounter potential exposure to perilous chemicals.…”

“…This, in turn, results in the smoothening of the deposited Zn film, highlighting the potential of this organic additive for further and more detailed research activities. Another anticipated advantage of introducing the organic compound is its potential corrosion inhibition effect, as elucidated in recent studies [26][27][28][29][30]. In alignment with these research trends, this brief study aims to assess the impact of benzalacetone addition on the performance of the resulting Zn galvanic films in diluted NaCl solutions.…”

“…Although mild steel has good mechanical and durable qualities that make it highly useful, it still undergoes degradation when exposed to acidic environments. Mild steel is the most extensively employed material in the oil and gas industries because of its strength, resistance to heat ductility, thermal expansion, weldability and durability [1][2][3][4][5]. It is proposed globally that corrosion causes a loss of approximately 3.4% of total GDP by the appropriate employment of corrosion mitigation strategies, and this cost can be greatly reduced.…”
