Correlation of Oral Vitamin D Administration with the Severity of Psoriasis and the Presence of Metabolic Syndrome

Abstract: To improve the management of psoriasis, we have started from the hypothesis that normalization of vitamin D serum reduces the severity of psoriasis and positively influences the diagnostic criteria of metabolic syndrome. Experimental part. The objective of the prospective study was to evaluate the impact of oral vitamin D on psoriazis and metabolic syndrome in a group of 184 patients diagnosed with psoriazis and metabolic syndrome, between 2010-2017. In all patients included in the study, we evaluated family … Show more

“…Although during the other two types of exercise the maximum speed was reached and the anaerobic glycolytic energy was increased, the performance achieved was low. These findings show that intense exercise per se does not induce muscle fatigue and that muscle metabolic imbalance is sufficient to induce neural and muscle changes (11).…”

“…Thus, studies show that athletes who practice long-lasting physical exercises (e.g. those practicing athletics) have higher serum levels and will more likely require the additional use of anaerobic energy (11).…”

“…Prolonged exposure of the skin to sunlight cannot produce toxic amounts of vitamin D3 due to the photo conversion of pre-vitamin D3 and vitamin D3 in inactive metabolites (lumisterol, tahisterol, 5,6-transvitamin D and suprasterol 1 and 2). In addition, sunlight induces melanin production that reduces vitamin D 3 production in the skin [5,6].…”

“…The vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene is located on chromosome 12q12-q14. VDR Apal polymorphism increased the risk of vitiligo susceptibility and there is a positive correlation between serum 25 (OH) D deficiency and the incidence of vitiligo 38,39 . In this regard, the VDR Apal, BsmI, Fokl gene has been found to be associated with insulin resistance, especially in Caucasians and Asians with dark skin pigmentation 40 .…”
