Correlation of Metal Spin State with Catalytic Reactivity: Polymerizations Mediated by α‐Diimine–Iron Complexes

Abstract: Der Mechanismus der Styrolpolymerisation durch α‐Diimin‐Eisen‐Komplexe hängt vom Spinzustand des Metallzentrums im Katalysator ab. Experimente und Rechnungen weisen darauf hin, dass High‐Spin‐Katalysatoren halogenophil reagieren und eine radikalische Atomtransferpolymerisation (ATRP) bewirken, wohingegen sich Komplexe in mittleren Spinzuständen carbophil verhalten und zu katalytischer Kettenübertragung führen (CCT, siehe Diagramm).
