Correlation Between Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1α and Vesicular Endothelial Growth Factor in Male Wistar Rat Brain Tissue After Anaerobic Exercise

Abstract: During physical activity, oxygen reduction leading to hypoxia affects brain cell metabolisms, induces stabilization of Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1α (HIF-1α) and up-regulate Vesicular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). This study aimed to investigate the correlation of HIF-1α and VEGF of brain tissue in male wistar rat after anaerobic exercise. Twenty four rats were divided into four groups: control, 1x, 3x and 7x in a week of anaerobic exercise. A rat treadmill was used at speed 35 m minG 1 , 20 min for every an… Show more

“…For example, one prediction of this model is that if angiogenesis could somehow be inhibited, then we would not expect to see any significant cognitive benefits after several weeks of exercise as the key stage of improved cerebral circulation would not occur. It is important to note that this model only describes one of perhaps several potential pathways for exercise-induced cognitive benefits; others may involve higherintensity, shorter duration exercise (and high-intensity interval training), which has been studied less than aerobic exercise but appears to increase VEGF in rats (Flora et al 2016) and serum BDNF in humans (Yarrow et al 2010). Other methods of IGF-1 upregulation or promotion of angiogenesis might be incorporated into the model, and further research might account for non-linear interactions of the different stages, all of which could contribute individually to a range of eventual cognitive benefits.…”

“…On the other hand, aerobic physical exercise was given by placing the animal testing into an animal treadmill and run it in the speed of 20 m/min for 30 minutes continually. 7 Acclimatization of animal testing was performed in one week by putting them into animal treadmill and run it in the speed of 5-10 m/min. Before and after the treatments, the body weight and rectal temperature of animal were measured.…”

“…HIF is a heterodimer protein composed of HIF‐1α and HIF‐1β, in which HIF‐1α rapidly responds to hypoxia to change the metabolic process of cells so that cells can adapt to a hypoxic environment (Salceda & Caro, 1997). Flora et al (2016) established a rat treadmill model of anaerobic exercise. They found that HIF‐1α was more significantly elevated in the group exercising once a week versus three times a week (Flora et al, 2016).…”

“…Flora et al (2016) established a rat treadmill model of anaerobic exercise. They found that HIF‐1α was more significantly elevated in the group exercising once a week versus three times a week (Flora et al, 2016). However, Sylviana et al found a marked decrease in HIF‐1α in mice that underwent long‐term chronic anaerobic exercise (Sylviana et al, 2018).…”
