Show more

“…In the present study, the PPV for BI-RADS category 4 was 33.08% in the cases with ultrasonography-guided biopsy, within the expected average reported in the literature; and 14.9% in the cases with stereotactic biopsy, an index similar to the values found by Melhado et al (17) . Histopathological analyses of breast biopsies of women whose mammograms revealed suspicious microcalcifications diagnosed breast cancer in 10% to 40% of cases (20) .…”

“…Studies in the literature have reported PPV for category 3 between 0% e 3%, while for category 4it has ranged between 15% and 40%, and for category 5, between 81% and 97% (7,8,(12)(13)(14)(15)(16)(17) .…”

“…ize imaging findings in descriptive terms, constituting an important tool for aiding physicians both in the suspicion of malignancy and in the decision making about the strategy to be adopted (16)(17)(18) . In 2003, the BI-RADS lexicon was updated, with a refinement in the description of microcalcifications and the inclusion of topics regarding breast ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging.…”

“…It is a set of terms utilized in the description of evaluation on the presence of breast cancer and categorization of appropriate approaches compatible with the findings diagnosed by the physician, which simplifies and facilitates the action of transcribing the patients' situation (8) . Several studies have demonstrated the high BI-RADS accuracy as a system to assist radiologists in the description of breast lesions and in the choice of appropriate approaches (9)(10)(11)(12)(13) . The BI-RADS was developed by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and is currently accepted as a standard by the medical community.…”
