Corrected QT Interval is Associated with Nonalconolic Fatty Liver Disease in Korean Adult Men

Abstract: Background: Recently, the incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been growing rapidly. Corrected QT (QTc) interval prolongation is known to be associated with the risk of coronary heart disease. In this study, our aim was to establish whether NAFLD diagnosed using ultrasonography is associated with QTc intervals in Korean adult men. Methods: We recruited 1,155 Korean adult men who visited the Gangnam Severance Hospital health promotion center between October 2007 and July 2010. The participa… Show more

“…27 Hung et al also conducted a cross-sectional study involving 31,116 individuals from the general population, confirming the association between NAFLD and prolonged QTc. 28,29 The association of NAFLD with ventricular arrhythmias was investigated by Mantovani et al, who observed a threefold increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias in diabetic patients with NAFLD. Specifically, they noted an increased incidence of greater than 30 premature ventricular contractions (PVC) per hour, non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT), or both in their patients.…”
