Objectives This study aims to determine the effect of flexible work arrangements (FWA) initiated in Turkey due to the COVID-19 pandemic on research status of academics and their coronavirus anxiety scores. Methods In this cross-sectional study, 290 academicians participated and completed the questionnaire. The descriptive (by response frequency) and inferential statistics (chi-square, student's t, and Anova tests) were performed for advanced data analysis. Results We found that a majority of the academics (71%) did not conduct academic research after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and academic research was largely negatively affected (67.2%). Furthermore, women (53.9%) and those with higher Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) scores had low research output. Additionally, women (54.9%), the participants working in health faculties (52.8%) and those with a high CAS score were adversely affected ( p < 0.001). Women, those working in healthcare faculties, and the younger participants had the highest CAS score ( p < 0.001). Conclusions The results of this study provide important data on the effects of the FWA implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic on academic research status and the coronavirus anxiety scores of academics.

To examine the association of health and hospital workers' fears of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) with anxiety, anxiety sensitivity, depression, and sociodemographic variables during the COVID‐19 pandemic. A total of 527 participants (237 men/289 women) were included, 222 of the participants were doctors, 99 nurses, 22 assistant health personnel, and 182 hospital personnel without health education. Participants filled in the sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Anxiety Sensitivity Index‐3, and Fear of COVID‐19 Inventory. In linear regression analysis, independent predictors of the fear of COVID‐19 were determined as Beck Anxiety Inventory ( p < 0.001), Beck Depression Inventory ( p = 0.001), and Anxiety Sensitivity Index‐3 Physical subscale ( p = 0.001). The fear of COVID‐19 is associated with the physical subscale of anxiety, depression, and anxiety sensitivity.

Background and Study Aim. In distance education, students’ attitudes towards this method gain importance in the process. The aim of this research is to examine the impact of coronavirus anxiety, academic self-sufficiency and life satisfaction levels of students in the faculty of sports sciences over their attitudes towards online learning. Material and Methods. A total of 379 sports science faculty students voluntarily participated for the cross-sectional data collection. A simple random sampling method was used in the selection of students from four universities in the Eastern Anatolian region, which make up the universe of the study. Data were collected electronically and analysed by IBM SPSS and AMOS statistical package program. Results. The structural equity model results revealed that academic self-sufficiency and life satisfaction are positive predictors of online learning attitudes and negative predictors of coronavirus anxiety. Online learning attitude was found to be positively correlated with other variables other than coronavirus anxiety. In addition, it has been determined that the scale total scores are slightly above average, except for coronavirus anxiety. Conclusions. The results have been discussed in terms of their meaning for the environment of physical education. In this research, which created a model for understanding online learning attitudes in students of the faculty of sports sciences, it was understood that coronavirus anxiety has a statistically significant effect on online learning attitudes while academic self-sufficiency and life satisfaction do not have a statistically significant effect. Students’ positive attitude towards online learning and understanding the predictors of this attitude will be a development to be appreciated by all stakeholders of the subject.
