Core–shell magnetic nanoparticles with surface-imprinted polymer coating as a new adsorbent for solid phase extraction of metronidazole

Abstract: We have prepared a nanoparticle-based metronidazole-imprinted polymer by combining a surface molecular imprinting technique with a sol-gel process. Metronidazole was used as a template, 3aminoprophyltriethoxysilane as the functional monomer, and tetraethyl orthosilicate as the cross-linker.The resulting magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The adsorbent can be applied to the solid phase ex… Show more

“…Chen et al. reported a sorbent of nanoparticle‐based metronidazole‐imprinted polymer by combining a surface molecular imprinting technique with a sol–gel process. The adsorbent can be applied to the SPE of metronidazole and exhibits high adsorption capacity, good selectivity, favorable reusability, and the feature of magnetic separation.…”

“…Several quantitative analytical methods have been reported to detect the concentration of MNZ in different matrices, such as ultraviolet spectrophotometry, 11,12 uorescence spectroscopy, 13,14 gas chromatography, 15 high-performance liquid chromatography, 16 immunoassay, 17 solid phase extraction, 18 electrochemical sensor. [19][20][21] However, spectrophotometric methods have some drawbacks such as requirement of long time heating, the use of nonaqueous systems, narrow range of determination, stability of the colored product formed, etc.…”

“…SiO 2 is stable under acidic conditions and is inert to the redox reaction, so coating silica on the magnetic nanoparticles is a good solution for the above problems. 28,29 As far as we know, there is no report on the solid phase extraction of uranium using a chelating sorbent prepared by SMIT. 30,31 In this study, a new UMCA was prepared by sol-gel method combined with an improved SMIT.…”
