Copy number variation of the CCDC39 gene is associated with growth traits in Chinese cattle

Abstract: Background: Copy number variation (CNV) has become an essential part of genetic structural variation. Coiled-coil domain containing 39 (CCDC39) is a gene that related to the growth and development of organs and tissues. It is identified that it has a CNV region by animal genome resequencing. Objective: In this study, we detected the phenotypic traits and different distributions of CCDC39 gene copy numbers in five Chinese cattle breeds (Qinchuan (QC) cattle, Yunling (YL) cattle, Xianan (XN) cattle, Pinan (PN) ca… Show more

“…Therefore, EHHADH affects the oxidative stress within testis through PPAR‐mediated regulation of oxidative balance and then affects sperm. While the missense variant g.2885C>A of ACADVL and CCDC39 CNVs both significantly affect growth characteristics of cattle such as: chest depth, chest width, hip width, and body length (Hu et al, 2022; Zhang et al, 2015). MAP3K13 is involved in protein metabolic processes and the gonadotropin‐releasing hormone receptor pathway, which has been found to be associated with growth traits and meat quality (Gurgul et al, 2016).…”

“…These genes hold promise as candidate genes for Chinese cattle breeding. Correspondingly, Hu et al ( 139 ) analyzed CCDC39 gene CNVs and their impact on body length and hip width, noting significant effects, particularly in the Pinan (PN) breed. Additionally, Shi et al ( 128 ) found a correlation between leptin gene CNV and various phenotypic traits, including body weight, body height, body length, and brisket circumference, in multiple cattle breeds.…”
