Copper corrosion inhibitors based on polyvinyl alcohol and silver nanoparticles

Abstract: Article Highlights • Corrosion inhibitors based on polymer systems • Electrochemical investigation methods were performed to induce copper corrosion • Polyvinyl alcohol with and without silver nanoparticles behave as copper corrosion inhibitors • Silver nanoparticles/polyvinyl alcohol system reaches inhibition efficiency around 98.9% • Action mechanism of inhibitors was discussed according to AFM

“…Atomic Force Microscopy was performed as in our previous studies [37,40,41], using a non-contact mode atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM, Park Systems, Suwon, Korea), PARK XE-100 SPM system). The cantilever had a nominal length of 125 mm, a nominal force constant of 40 N m -1 , and oscillation frequencies in the range of 275-373 kHz.…”

“…These materials have been used in the production of condenser tubes for ships, heat exchanger tubing materials in power plants, and other industries, such as pipeline networks, valves, pumps, fittings, etc. [1][2][3][4][5]. Cu-Al alloys, also known as aluminium bronzes, with aluminium contents up to 14 % wt., exhibit an excellent combination of strength and corrosion resistance, making them one of today's most important engineering materials for highly stressed components in corrosive environments.…”
