Cooperative beamforming and relay selection in cognitive radio systems

Abstract: In this paper, a new scheme is suggested for cooperative beamforming (BF) and relay selection in CR networks, where a pair of secondary users communicates with each other assisted by some multiple antenna relay nodes. The goal of the algorithm is to maximize signal to interference plus noise ratio of secondary user receiver subject to limited interference caused for primary user receiver and power constraints of relay nodes. The relay selection and BF optimization problem is solved separately by employing conv… Show more

“…Several recent works investigate the outage behavior of cooperative cognitive networks under different relaying protocols, number of available relays, channel models, and interference conditions, as for instance, [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. In [12], it is investigated the outage performance of a multi-relay network under Rayleigh fading channels in a noise-limited environment, as well as the impact of imperfect channel state information (CSI) on the system performance.…”

“…Considering the presence of multiple primary transmitters (PTs) and receivers, the outage performance of DF systems is evaluated in [16]. In [17], it is investigated a relay selection and beamforming optimization problem that maximizes the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio of SUs. However, this approach requires global CSI at the secondary network, of all the related channel coefficients, but perfectly measuring and sharing this information in spectrum-sharing environments may be a very difficult task in practice.…”

“…

In this paper, we investigate a two-step cooperative cognitive radio network, which consists of two secondary links, a number of relays, and one primary link. Hence, a relay network could help by receiving the messages from the secondary source and forwarding them to the secondary destination [8][9][10].In CR networks, the beamforming (BF) strategy can be used to improve the performance [8,11,12]. During the second step, the relay network employs a proposed cooperative beamforming (CBF) scheme and transmits the received data toward both of the secondary destinations (no matter whether the primary link is idle or not).
