Convergent Validity of the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA+Plus): Associations with Working Memory, Processing Speed, and Behavioral Ratings

Abstract: Though the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA + Plus) is commonly used by researchers and clinicians, few investigations have assessed its convergent and discriminant validity, especially with regard to its use with children. The present study details correlates of the IVA + Plus using measures of cognitive ability and ratings of child behavior (parent and teacher), drawing upon a sample of 90 psychoeducational evaluations. Scores from the IVA + Plus correlated significantly with t… Show more

“…For example, diagnostic precision of CPTs (and related tests for attention) to determine ADHD was mostly inaccurate. While sensitivity towards ADHD was shown to be reasonable in several studies, specificity towards normal controls and individuals with other psychiatric disorders was often low (Arble, Kuentzel, & Barnett, 2014;Edwards et al, 2007;Forbes, 1998;Park et al, 2016;Riccio & Reynolds, 2001;Schatz, Ballantyne, & Trauner, 2001). Thus, CPT test failure is not disorder specific, as there are usually multiple possible reasons why someone would show poor performance on a CPT.…”

“…The IVA/CPT was used to assess patient attention and response control. The test has a high reliability and validity [ 47 , 48 ], and consists of warm-up, main, and cool-down tests. Subjects were instructed to click the mouse when they saw or heard a “1” (target) and to not click the mouse when they saw or heard a “2” (distractor).…”
