Eurostat's projections indicate that by 2050 Poland will see a significant reduction in and ageing of its labour resources. The country is experiencing a strong polarization of demographic phenomena and disproportions in population structure. The goal of the study was to determine whether Poland's labour resources are undergoing convergence or divergence. The occurrence of beta, sigma and gamma-convergence in the country's individual provinces (voivodeships) in the period 2012-2018 was verified. Three models were created (working age population ratio, young-age dependency ratio and old-age dependency ratio). The results indicate the occurrence of absolute (unconditional) beta-convergence of the variables that characterise labour resources. No unambiguous confirmation of sigma-convergence, i.e. a significant reduction in the diversification of the provinces in terms of the studied variables, was obtained. Similarly, the occurrence of gamma-convergence, i.e. a significant change in the positions of the provinces in terms of labour resources, was not unambiguously confirmed.

In the paper, the conceptual apparatus (the ontology OntoReg) is presented for designing the Knowledge Based System (KBS ). An original methodology of designing an applied ontology has been developed on the basis of the concept of Roman Ingarden’s individual object as well as the concept of Rudolf Carnap’s constructional systems (Aufbau). According to the procedure of creating an applied ontology, the original ontology of the region (OntoReg) has been developed, with particular emphasis on the characteristics of the region with the distinction of properties at three levels of the constructional system. At the first level, absolutely own properties, acquired properties and externally conditioned properties are distinguished. At the second level, positive states of objects (potentials of the region: geographical potential, social potential, innovative potential, institutional potential) and negative states of objects (risk of implementing the regional development strategy: project implementation risk, environmental risk, institutional risk, public health and safety risk) are defined. At the third level, the indicators of the respective types of potential and risk are considered. The relative characteristics of the comparative assessment between the indicator values for a given potential/risk and a reference value established in scientific research are determined. Determining the relative properties constitutes new knowledge generated due to the ontology constructed.

This article examines the role of bilateral FDI and income convergence in affecting HDI increase in countries with middle HDI in ASEAN. The ASEAN Economic Community has been developing and it is expected that the gaps between nations can be covered. This article explores how economic intervention through HDI and income convergence can boost HDI improvement. The writers examine the presence of a statistically significant causal relationship between source country’s GDP, home country’s GDP, source country’s FDI towards the home country, source country total FDI, home country total FDI, and the percentage of source country FDI towards source country total FDI with both countries HDI convergence. Measurement is carried out using the generalized method of moments. Based on yearly samples of high HDI countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore) couple with medium HDI countries (Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Philippine) during 2013–2017 period, the writers find statistically significant impact of home country GDP, source country FDI towards all countries, and FDI percentage of the home country compared to all countries.
