Controlled Synthesis of CeO2 Flower-Like and Well-Aligned Nanorod Hierarchical Architectures by a Phosphate-Assisted Hydrothermal Route

Abstract: Large-scale CeO 2 hierarchical architectures composed of well-aligned nanorods were controllably prepared through a simple Na 3 PO 4 assisted hydrothermal reaction without any templates. The products were characterized with X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the CeO 2 architectures are in flower-like and vertically aligned nanorod morphologies and composed of numerous fluorite cubic single-crystalline nanorods … Show more

“…Nanostructured CeO 2 possesses superior physical and chemical properties compared with its bulk counterparts [6][7][8]. Over the years, remarkable progresses have been made in the study of the synthesis of CeO 2 nanomaterials with various morphologies and in the investigation of their corresponding novel properties [9][10][11].…”

“…Other flower-like CeO 2 architectures that consist of nanorods arranged in a spherical morphology, reminiscent of urchin structures, with no sheet-like components, have also been reported. 67 Finally, when compared with the above CeO 2 samples, the MAS technique used herein for the synthesis of CeO 2 samples afforded a unique open structure when EG solution was used as solvent. In contrast, synthesis in water generated material morphologies as commonly reported.…”

“…324 The obtained CeO 2 nanoplates that are enclosed by six (100) facets had a much higher OSC. Hierarchical nanostructures such as arrays of nanorods, 325 flowery shapes, 326,327 nanospindles, 328 and hollow spheres [329][330][331] were synthesized by hydrothermal-like processes with the aid of complicated structure-directing agents. Most interestingly, single-crystalline-like CeO 2 hollow nanocubes with an average edge length of 120 nm and a shell thickness of 30 nm have been fabricated solvothermally using peroxyacetic acid as the oxidant but without using any template.…”
