Controlled Release Strategies for the Combination of Fresh and Lyophilized Platelet-Rich Fibrin on Bone Tissue Regeneration

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to investigate growth factors release kinetics for the combination of fresh platelet-rich fibrin (F-PRF) and lyophilized PRF (L-PRF) with different ratios to promote bone tissue regeneration. First, we quantified the level of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and platelet-derived growth factor-AB (PDGF-AB) in vitro and analyzed their release kinetics from F-PRF, L-PRF, and the fresh/lyophilized PRF in different weight ratios (F:L… Show more

“…Since the primary macrophages of different individuals differed, we did not extract primary cells. Although many literatures have reported the use of i‐PRF to treat cells of heterogeneous origin (Dai et al, ; do Lago, Ferreira, Garcia Jr., Okamoto, & Mariano, ; Kargarpour et al, ; Liu et al, ), this is a limitation of current research. For example, without using primary cells, it may not be possible to accurately simulate the immune response in the body.…”

“…In another example, FD-PRP was used to enhance the biological activities of fresh PRP formulations. Supplementing fresh PRF with allogeneic FD-PRF increased the concentration of GFs and other signaling cytokines, thereby enhancing bone regeneration in two different rodent calvarial models [66,67].…”

“…Recently, L‐GFs have been used in different fields including ophthalmology treating ocular surface disorders, 9 orthopedic surgery for bone tissue regeneration, 10 and in plastic surgery treating chronic wounds 11 as well as acute wounds of burns 12 . It has not been used widely in dermatological fields.…”

“…This handling is recommended for facilitating platelets storage, reducing the frequency of its contamination, and increasing the period of its validity. 7,8 Recently, L-GFs have been used in different medical and surgical fields including ophthalmology, 9 orthopedic surgery, 10 and plastic surgery. 11,12 Based on its previously proved efficacy in tissue restoration and healing process, we decided to evaluate its possible therapeutic role in post-acne scars.…”
