“…At study entry, participant were assessed using MMSE, ADAS-Cog, the global CDR to assess the cognitive functions; the IADL and BADL to detect impairment in activity of daily living; the Geriatric Depression Scale, (GDS 15 items) (Sheikh and Yesavage, 1986), the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (Hamilton, 1967), the Neuropsychiatry Inventory, (NPI) (Cummings et al, 1994), to study the presence of depressive symptoms and psycho-behavioural disturbances. They were assessed also using a neuropsychological battery which consisted of the Rey word list immediate and delayed recall (Rey, 1958), the Novelli short story learning and recall (Novelli et al, 1986), Raven's coloured matrices (Bingham et al, 1966), Trail Making test A and B (Reitan, 1958), Rey figure copy and recall (Osterrieth, 1944b), semantic and phonemic fluency (Benton and Hamsher, 1983). Every concomitant illness and treatment were recorded.…”
