Controlled Molecular Assemblies of Electrically Conductive Polymers

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The Langmuir-Blodgett technique has recently been used to manipulate a variety of electroactive conjugated polymers into multilayer thin films with well defined layered structures and ordered molecular organizations. Multilayer thin films have been successfully fabricated from amphiphilic conjugated polymers and their precursors and from non-surface active conjugated polymers. In most cases, the molecular organizations of these films have been found to be highly anisotropic. The structures of these f… Show more

“…Electrically conductive polymers (CPs) are a recently discovered class of materials which combine chemically tunable conductivity with a high degree of processability. The properties of these materials have been extensively characterized and are the subject of several recent reviews. One of the more intriguing applications of CPs has been in chemical detection. This application has its origins in the exquisite sensitivity of the conductivity of CP materials to specific chemical species, in particular strong oxidizing and reducing agents.…”

“…Electropolymerization of PS Dye. The use of electrochemical polymerization for synthesis of conducting polymer LB films has been very limited despite the number of such polymeric films prepared so far: mostly chemical polymerization was used. , Electropolymerization of LB multilayers of amphiphilic pyrrole derivatives has been reported by Honda's group, , where they obtained anisotropic conducting film of polypyrrole having alternate conducting and insulating layers.…”

“…Conducting polymers are one such material that has attracted considerable interest in recent years. The preparation of high-quality ultrathin films of conducting polymers has great relevance to technological applications such as in sensors and molecular electronics. , The poor solubility in common organic solvents and lack of amphiphilicity are two important factors that have restricted the LB deposition of conducting polymers. However, these factors have been overcome by various molecular engineering approaches.…”
