Controllable Synthesis of Single‐Crystalline Fe3O4 Nanorice by a One‐Pot, Surfactant‐Assisted Hydrothermal Method and Its Properties

Abstract: Single‐crystalline Fe3O4 nanorice has been prepared by a simple one‐pot, surfactant‐assisted hydrothermal method using dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) as a surfactant. X‐ray powder diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), TEM, high‐resolution (HR)TEM, micro‐Raman spectroscopy and magnetic measurements have been employed to study the properties of the product. The importance of NaAc and ethylene glycol in the formation of the pure magnetite phase has been established. The as‐syn… Show more

“…EG is a widely used chemical for the preparation of Fe 3 O 4 NPs by virtue of its reducibility at high temperatures. [56][57][58] The H 2 O molecule also has a strong oxidization at high temperature. 59 Under hydrothermal conditions, all precursors and solvents endured high temperature and high pressure in an autoclave with a conned space.…”

“… 14 Typically, the decomposition of iron precursors in an aqueous solution with or without surfactants results in aggregated clusters of larger size distribution. For example, a polyethylene glycol (PEG)–Fe 3 O 4 nanodisc, 15 ethylene glycol (EG)–Fe 3 O 4 nanoflowers, 10 dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide–Fe 3 O 4 NPs, 16 Fe 3 O 4 /C core–shell nanorings with EG/PEG, 17 and PEG–Mn 0.2 Ni 0.8 Fe 2 O 4 18 have all been synthesized utilizing this method. In contrast to the hydrolytic synthesis of nanoferrites, only a limited number of reports have highlighted the organic-phase hydrothermal synthesis of nanocrystals.…”
