Adequate nutritional status is fundamental for the fruiting process of mango trees (Mangifera indica L.). In this context, plant biostimulants are substances that promote physiological and nutritional changes, benefiting production. The present study evaluated the effect of biostimulants on the nutritional status and fruit production of ‘Kent’ mango trees. The experiment was carried out in the Brazilian semiarid region over 2 consecutive years, 2016 and 2017. Leaf treatments with biostimulants were applied in three phases (preflowering, beginning of flowering, and full flowering) during both seasons. The treatments were as follows: T1) control (without biostimulants); T2) biostimulants containing nutrients and L-α-amino acids; T3) biostimulants containing nutrients and Lithothamnium algae extract; T4) biostimulants containing nutrients and sucrose; and T5) biostimulants containing nutrients, free amino acids, and Lithothamnium algae extract. The results show that there was no effect of the biostimulants for chlorophyll a, b, and total indices or for total leaf soluble carbohydrates. Some of the treatments affected the leaf concentrations of N, K, Mn, Fe, and Zn, whereas only T2 in 2016 and T5 in 2017 increased the number of fruits per panicle if compared with nontreated plants. In 2016, the production per tree was higher in T5 compared with the other treatments, whereas it was greater in 2017 in both T2 and T5 with increases of 37.4 and 23.1 kg per tree, respectively, compared with the control treatment. Biostimulants containing soluble nutrients, L-α-amino acids, free amino acids, and Lithothamnium algae extract benefit the nutritional status and increase the fruit production of mango ‘Kent’.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different gibberellin biosynthesis inhibitors on shoot growth above the panicle, as well as on fruit yield, size, and shape of nonirrigated 'Hass' avocado (Persea americana) trees. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design, with five treatments, four replicates, and 40 trees. From 2013 to 2015, the following treatments were applied at full bloom, as foliar sprayings: water (control), 250 mg L-1 prohexadione-calcium, 2,500 mg L-1 trinexapac-ethyl, 1,750 mg L-1 paclobutrazol, and 350 mg L-1 uniconazole; the first two are acylcyclohexanediones and the last two, triazoles. Fruit yield, yield efficiency, and alternate bearing were not affected by the application of plant growth regulators. However, the gibberellin inhibitors increased fruit size and modified the fruit shape of nonirrigated 'Hass' avocado. Uniconazole reduces shoot growth above the panicle, and this effect may vary depending on environmental conditions, especially water supply.

O uso do paclobutrazol em mangueiras é bastante difundido nas regiões tropicais, uma vez que desempenham importante função de promover a floração, permitindo o escalonamento da produção. Além da floração, o paclobutrazol pode influenciar outras características, como porte, concentração de carboidratos e alterar a cor verde nas folhas. Nesse contexto, o trabalho avaliou as relações entre características vegetativas e concentrações de carboidratos em plantas de mangueira 'Ubá' submetidas a diferentes doses de paclobutrazol (PBZ). Em abril de 2014 o PBZ foi aplicado em mangueira conduzidas em arranjo fatorial 5 x 2 + 1, sendo 5 doses de paclobutrazol (0; 0,50; 1,00; 1,50 e 2,0 g(i.a) por metro linear de copa), com e sem desponte dos ramos e uma testemunha adicional que não recebeu nenhum dos tratamentos descritos. O delineamento foi em blocos casualisados, 4 repetições e, em cada bloco foi acrescentada uma testemunha que não recebeu nenhum dos tratamentos. Foram avaliados comprimento e diâmetro do primeiro e segundo fluxo de brotação após a poda,índice SPAD e os teores foliares de amido e açúcares solúveis totais, cujas amostras foram colhidas no período de intumescimento das gemas (época 1) e aos 60 dias após o florescimento pleno (época 2). O PBZ não influenciou no crescimento dos ramos e na intensidade da cor verde em mangueira 'Ubá', porém alterou os teores dos carboidratos em mangueira 'Ubá'.
