Control over the steel welding structure parameters by micro-jet cooling

Abstract: The paper presents the characteristics of innovative technology of micro-jet cooling in MIG welding (according to PN-EN ISO 4063:2009). Presented results received at different jet hole geometry and various coolant pressure. This technology allows get, with appropriately selected parameters of cooling increased ferrite AF content in weld metal, up to 14% for standard MIG technology. This structure proves toughness, especially at temperature -40• C. Keywords: micro-jet cooling, weld, metallographic structure, a… Show more

“…Schematic of the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) device; an own picture prepared on the basis of [14][15][16] Metallic scaffolds manufactured with the SLM method are classified as rapid prototyping methods consisting of selective pre-melting/melting of powders on a point-by-point and layer-bylayer basis [18][19] using a high-performance laser. A schematic of an SLM 250 HL device by SLM Solutions GmbH used for scaffold manufacturing, being the equipment of a research partner of the Silesian University of Technology implementing join research projects [3] -Chemnitz Univertity, Germany, is shown in Fig. 6.…”

“…Its constant development necessitates the intensive enhancement and optimisation of the existing technological solutions and a search for modern and innovative opportunities of producing new materials or modifying the existing ones. Continuous endeavours have therefore been made to improve physical properties, especially mechanical properties and/or functional properties of the materials produced to ensure their high quality and the market attractiveness of the products manufacturing with them [1][2][3].…”

“…For this purpose, the authors decided to join presented in publications two methods: micro-jets and HVOF [7][8][9][10]. It was assumed that suitably selected micro-injectors and processing parameters provide adequate heat dissipation of the applied surface and thus reduce thermal stresses].…”

“…Non-destructive testing follow visual inspections, however, positive visual assessment is a key to the further and more complex control such as surface cracking, ultrasonic testing on fusion or examinations of an iron content in the surfacing weld. It is made to reduce a cost of examinations, if a visual inspection reveals defects in the surfacing weld, it is unfounded to undergo any other expensive examinations until all the defects are removed [14][15][16].…”
