Control of photovoltaic‐based low‐voltage dc microgrid system for power sharing with modified droop algorithm

Abstract: This study discusses a droop-based proportional load sharing control of parallel connected dc-dc converters in photovoltaic (PV)-based low-voltage dc microgrid. Droop control is the popular scheme for power sharing in dc microgrid. In this study, proportional droop index (PDI) algorithm with droop (R droop) shifting is introduced to improve the load sharing performance of the dc microgrid, which is a function of normalised current sharing difference and voltage deviation in the output side of the converters. “…The major problems associated with parallel operation of DC-DC converters are proper power-sharing, maximum power tracking for RESs, power loss in the converters, managing energy storage devices, voltage regulation, etc. [11]. µGs have a common advantage to collaborate and exchange control locally inside the given system.…”

“…More importantly, most of these methods have focused on seamless transfer for either only a single renewable system or the master unit in a hierarchical system. For paralleled systems, they may have to incorporate droop control, which by far, has been widely utilized for enhancing load sharing and stability when islanded [22]- [24]. Because of that, some studies have expanded the usage of droop control to the grid-connected mode, in order to achieve seamless transfer [25]- [27].…”
