Neotropical Entomology 36(2): 161-179 (2007) Controle Microbiano de Artrópodes-Praga em Fruteiras Tropicais RESUMO -Muitos insetos e ácaros atacam fruteiras nos trópicos. O método tradicional para controlar a maioria dessas pragas é a aplicação de inseticidas químicos. A crescente preocupação sobre os efeitos negativos desses produtos vem encorajando o desenvolvimento de alternativas. Agentes do controle biológico aplicados de forma inundativa ou inoculativa têm sido pesquisados como método de controle alternativo para uma variedade de pragas em grande número de culturas, incluindo fruteiras tropicais. A maioria das pesquisas e aplicações em fruteiras tropicais tem sido feita em citros, insetos. Em banana, o controle do moleque-da-bananeira, Cosmopolites sordidus Germar (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) com nematóides e fungus também é considerado de sucesso. Oryctes rhinoceros (L.) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) é uma das principais pragas em côco e um dos mais importantes exemplos de controle biológico clássico por vírus não-ocluso. As pragas-chave em manga que têm sido controladas com diferentes agentes de controle microbiano são as moscas-das-frutas (Diptera: Tephritidae), com nematóides e fungos, o gorgulho-da-manga, Sternochetus mangiferae (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), com fungos, e vários hemípteros com fungo. O controle microbiano de a maior aplicabilidade dessas tecnologias é o desenvolvimento de combinações compatíveis entre entomopatógenos, predadores e parasitóides juntamente com outras técnicas de controle. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Bactéria, vírus, fungo, nematóideABSTRACT -A multitude of insects and mites attack fruit crops throughout the tropics. The traditional method for controlling most of these pests is the application of chemical pesticides. Growing concern on the negative environmental effects has encouraged the development of alternatives. Inundatively and inoculatively applied microbial control agents (virus, bacteria, fungi, and entomopathogenic nematodes) have been developed as alternative control methods of a wide variety of arthropods including tropical fruit pests. The majority of the research and applications in tropical fruit agroecosystems has been conducted in citrus, banana, coconut, and mango. Successful microbial control initiatives of citrus pests and mites have been reported. Microbial control of arthropod pests of banana includes banana weevil, Cosmopolites sordidus Germar (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) (with EPNs and fungi) among others Oryctes rhinoceros (L.) is one of the most important pests of coconut and one of the most successful uses of non-occluded virus for classical biological control. The family Coreidae is distributed worldwide, but these phytophagous bugs are most abundant in the tropics and subtropics. In the Neotropical region, all of the subfamilies and 16 tribes are represented. In tropical ecosystems, these bugs feed on herbs and shrubs in open areas of forests as well as at the forest edge. Some species are spectacularly colored, and unusual expansions of antennae, humeral angles, femora, or tibiae occur in many groups. Some of them move lazily even when disturbed and hardly fl y to escape; others are extremely nimble, fast fl ying away when disturbed. They are frequently encountered in crops, representing important pests in several commodities. No one common name is universally accepted for the family, and none of the frequently used names (e.g., squash bug, leatherbug, leaf-footed bug, Randwanzen) are collectively appropriate for all members of the family.

. Ciclo de vida y análisis de riesgo climático de Leptoglossus zonatus Dallas (Hemiptera: Coreidae) para las zonas productoras de sorgo en el estado de Morelos, México. Acta Zoológica Mexicana (n.s.), 32(3), 300-309. RESUMEN.Leptoglossus zonatus se alimenta de varias plantas de importancia económica, una de ellas es el sorgo Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, principal cultivo de temporal en Morelos. Hasta el momento no existen publicaciones referentes a las unidades calor acumuladas para el desarrollo de esta especie, lo cual puede ser utilizado para calcular el número de generaciones que se presentan durante el ciclo de cualquier cultivo o durante un año, y con ello estimar su daño potencial. Para obtener lo anterior, se estudió el ciclo biológico de la especie en tres condiciones diferentes de temperatura: 20.4 °C, 21.56 °C y 24.8 °C, y con ello se calcularon las unidades calor acumuladas con el método de temperaturas medias, así como el número de generaciones en cada estación climatológica de Morelos. Estos últimos datos se proyectaron en un mapa de la zona sorguera de la entidad y se ubicó el nivel de riesgo en base a la incidencia de L. zonatus en las áreas productoras de sorgo. En las tres condiciones de estudio, el ciclo biológico de L. zonatus tuvo una duración de 164, 152 y 109 días, respectivamente. La temperatura base (temperatura umbral de desarrollo) calculada para este insecto fue de 10.37 °C y las unidades calor acumuladas para completar su ciclo biológico fueron 1,680. De acuerdo con los datos históricos de temperatura, L. zonatus presentó hasta 3 generaciones al año en las áreas productoras de sorgo de Morelos, lo cual se considera como un riesgo potencial alto. El alto riesgo se observó en los municipios de Puente de Ixtla, Amacuzac, Mazatepec, Miacatlán, Temixco, Emiliano ABSTRACT. Leptoglossus zonatus feeds on various plants of economic importance, one of them is sorghum Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, main rain fed crop in the State of Morelos. Up to date there are no publications on degree days for growing development of this species, which can be used to calculate the number of generations that develop during the cycle of any crop or through one year, and thereby estimate its potential harm. In order to achieve the above, life cycle of the species was studied under three different temperature conditions: 20.4 °C, 21.56 °C, and 24.8 °C, and thereby the degree days were calculated with the method of average temperatures, as well as the number of generations in each weather station in Morelos. These data were projected onto a map of the Morelos and the level of risk of incidence of L. zonatus was located in the sorghum producing areas. In the three study conditions, the degree days for life cycle of L. zonatus lasted 164, 152 and 109 days, respectively. The calculated base temperature for this insect was 10.37 °C and the accumulated degree days to complete its life cycle were 1,680.
