Contributions to the Study of the World Macropsini (Rhynchota: Homoptera: Cicadellidae)

Abstract: The generic classification of the Macropsini is reviewed, and five new genera and four new subgenera are erected: Macropsella n. gen., Macropsis (Neomacropsis) n. subgen, M. (Parapediopsis) n. subgen., Pedionis n. gen., P. (Thyia) n. subgen., Pediopsoides (Celopsis) n. subgen.; Reticopsis n. gen., Toropsis n. gen., and Varicopsella n. gen.. The following genus-group names are considered to be subgenera: Macropsidius Ribaut as a subgenus of Macropsis Lewis; Nanopsis Freytag, Kiamoncopsis Linnavuori and Sispocni… Show more

“…Pediopsis femorata was described based on the female by Hamilton (1980), later it was transferred to subgenus Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) Matsumura, 1912 and the male individual was described and illustrated by Huang & Viraktamath (1993). The external morphological characters and original description of femorata distal lateral lobes of frontoclypeus not expanded; striations on pronotum are distinct and oblique; forewings with 3 anteapical cells are consistent with those of the genus Pediopsis.…”

“…In Hamilton’s (1980) Macropsini revision the genus Pediopsoides included 5 subgenera, including the nominate subgenus Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) for Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) formosanus Matsumura, 1912 from Taiwan island of China and Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) satsumensis (Matsumura, 1912) from Kiushu island of Japan. More recently, the following other species have been added: Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) femorata (Hamilton, 1980) from Taiwan island of China, Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) kodaiana Viraktamath, 1996 from Tamil Nadu state of India, Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) jingdongensis Zhang, 2010 from Yunnan Province of China, Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) bispinata Li, Dai & Li, 2012 and Pediopsoides (Pediopsoides) nigrolabium Li, Dai & Li, 2012 from Guangxi Province of China.…”
