Contribution of mitochondrial gene variants in diabetes and diabetic kidney disease

Abstract: ObjectivesMitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetes. Variants in mtDNA have been reported in diabetes, but studies on the whole mtDNA variants were limited.
