Continuity of tradition: Vernacularity of the modern Javanese house transformation in Laweyan, Surakarta

Abstract: Javanese architecture has transformed from vernacular tradition to modern. The outward appearance of modern Javanese houses in Laweyan seems heavily influenced by European styles because they are more permanent and are considered less suitable for a tropical climate.
