ÖzBu çalışmada, Türkiye'deki altın madeni projelerinin özelliklerinin yerel toplulukların madene karşı direniş düzeyini nasıl etkilediğini araştırmayı amaçlamaktayız. Maden projelerinin nesnel bir şekilde gözlemlenebilir özelliklerinin direniş düzeyini doğrudan etkilediğini iddia eden nesnelci anlayışın egemen olduğu mevcut literatürün aksine, post-yapısalcı bir perspektiften nesnel özelliklerin ancak maden karşıtı ve yanlısı söylemde kurulduğu biçimiyle direnişi etkileyebileceğini iddia etmekteyiz. Bu doğrultuda, Artvin-Cerrattepe, Eşme-Kışladağ, Menderes-Efemçukuru ve İliç-Çöpler projelerinin 1994-2010 yılları arasında sahip oldukları özellikleri, hem maden yanlısı ve karşıtı grupların söylemleriyle hem de direniş düzeyleriyle ilişkilendirerek karşılaştırmaktayız. Bu karşılaştırmalı analiz sonucunda, projelerin özelliklerinden maden şirketinin menşei, üretim sürecinde siyanür kullanımı, madenin şirket için değeri, yerleşim yerlerine mesafesi, topoğrafik konumu, madenden etkilenen yöre halkının gelir düzeyinin, yöre halkının madene karşı direnişini hem protesto söylemi hem de maden yanlısı söylem aracılığıyla etkilediğini gösteriyoruz. Diğer yandan madenin türü, ocak türü ve tenör gibi özelliklerinin direnişle ilişkilerinin olmadığını ortaya koyuyoruz. Çalışmamız, ilgili literatüre bir yandan maden projelerinin özelliklerini direniş düzeyiyle ilişkilendiren yeni bir teorik çerçeve sunarak, diğer yandan maden şirketinin menşei, madenin şirket için değeri ve madenin topoğrafik konumu gibi literatürde değinilmeyen proje özelliklerinin de çatışan söylemlerde yer alarak direniş düzeyini etkilediğini göstererek katkıda bulunmaktadır.

In this article, we investigate the emergence of modern environmentalism in the Kurdistan Region (Iraq), a de facto state in which ecological well-being is under serious strain. Social mobilizations in the Middle East have been depicted as confrontational and opposing the authorities. Studies of environmental activism in the region have also highlighted conflictual relations between social actors and the holders of power. In this article, we stress the need to expand the research scope to closely examine other forms of actions and strategies in relation to ecological threats and climate change. Drawing upon field research and interviews in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, we analyze the (geo)politics, economic systems and social change which together affect nature, natural resources, landscapes and climate, as well as the patterns of Kurdish contestation in these areas. We term the typical practices of the new phenomenon of Kurdish environmental activism as 'dutiful' form of dissent, which can be explained by contextualizing activism. It is grounded in political ecology and activists' efforts are directed at state building and policymaking in a post-conflict state.

Bergama and Cerattepe movements, for instance, emerged as strong resistance struggles against the extraction of gold using cyanide leaching processes that damage human-nature interaction (C ¸oban, 2004;Yas¸ın, 2019). Since winning its first electoral victory in 2002, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has promoted nuclear energy as crucial for satisfying rising energy needs, triggering economic development and increasing competitiveness of Turkey. This hegemonic discourse has been challenged by the anti-nuclear platform (ANP) that has framed nuclear energy as posing a threat to human life and the nature. Based on an engagement between the framing perspective and the Gramscian approach, this study considers the framing activities of the ANP as a counter-hegemonic strategy to challenge the hegemonic discourses articulated by AKP on nuclear energy over the past 15 years. Analyzing the data from primary sources, such as reports, bulletins, pamphlets, and press releases produced by the ANP and interviews with ANP representatives, this study reveals the ways the platform exercises power through their framing practices and counter-hegemonic discourses to delegitimize the official frame promoting nuclear energy in Turkey.
