This research aimed to study the edible coating starch making for preserving fruit as an alternative for junior high school science practicum on additives substance material. The edible coating is a thin layer that can be consumed, inhibits microbial growth, and provides physical protection to the coated fruit. The steps to make edible coating starch carried out by the researchers are as follows: producing an eatable coating solution from cassava starch, making citronella extract fragrant, and application on fruit. Based on the results of research, edible coating starch with the addition of 30% citronella grass extract was the best treatment. Grapes could last up to 14 days of storage and showed a decrease in water content and fruit sugar by 72.22% and 4.80%, respectively. Based on the questionnaire of the teacher's responses to the manufacture of edible coating starch as an alternative to the science practicum, the results on the material aspects were in the marvelous category (90.62%), practical aspects were in a good category (79.01%), the cost and safety aspects were in the good category (85.11%). Therefore, it was possible to apply edible coating practice in schools.

The Impact of Augmented Reality Technology on Students' Motivation to Learn English

Research into the application of augmented reality in education remains in its preliminary stages, with a notable dearth of studies exploring the impact and consequences of augmented reality within educational settings. This study aimed to evaluate and gain insight into how an augmented reality mobile application influenced the motivation of junior high school students studying English. Intrinsic motivation theory served as the framework for understanding motivation in a learning context. The study employed the Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) model to elucidate the influence of augmented reality on student motivation. The research instrument utilized was a 34-item questionnaire centered around English learning motivation, based on the Instructional Materials Motivation Survey. A cohort of 200 participants engaged with the augmented reality mobile applications and completed both pre and post-tests. The findings indicated a significant enhancement in students' motivation to learn when utilizing the augmented reality mobile application. Motivational elements, including attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction, witnessed marked improvements.

The education community has gradually recognized the value of augmented reality (AR) technology and its positive impacts on student learning performance. Still, few studies have proposed specific solutions and results to confirm this phenomenon for first graders in English vocabulary learning. Hence, this research explores the effects of AR apps on first graders’ English learning motivation and performance in addition to analyzing the moderating effects of learning styles. For this purpose, the class was divided into the experimental group that used an AR app in learning and a control group that used traditional learning methods. A series of stochastics analyses were carried out. Based on the results, this study finds that incorporating AR apps into English vocabulary learning can significantly improve first graders’ motivation and English vocabulary learning performance. The study’s findings will be beneficial to educational practitioners and researchers in developing instructional theories, strategies, and materials and improving elementary students’ learning motivation and performance.
