Contamination by Remazol Red Brilliant Dye and Its Impact in Aquatic Photosynthetic Microbiota

Abstract: The purpose of this work was to evaluate the heterogeneity and diversity of algae according to an aquatic environment polluted by Remazol Red Brilliant dye. Methodology followed Winogradsky columns technique, which describes a microecosystem in a glass container. Two columns were prepared: one control and another with Remazol Red Brilliant dye simulating a contaminated environment. The experiment was under illumination to provide light energy to photosynthetic organisms and alteration in two columns were obser… Show more

“…Most often, the effluents discharged by these industries into the aquatic environment are sources of serious pollution problems [1]. The site of the discharged wastewater containing dyes cause the obstruction of light necessary for photosynthesis of aquatic plants, which reduces the growth of algae and leads to ecological imbalance in the aquatic ecosystem; in addition, these pollutants also have toxic and carcinogenic effects in humans [2,3] At a time when international community is seriously cornes about clean water, which is more and more polluted, rare and overexploited according to the report of the world water day of march 22, 2022, it is becoming more that urgent to build up green methods, efficient and inexpensive solutions for the 3.6 billions peoples in the world who nowaday do not always have access to modern methods of water treatment. Many scientists are paying close attention to this issue, in line with the increasingly stringent standards for toxic discharge.…”

“…In recent time, there is a growing interest and concern over contamination of the aquatic environment by dyes. This is because the release of dyes into aquatic environment causes reduction in the growth of algae due to obstruction of light required for photosynthesis, which subsequently leads to ecological imbalance in the aquatic ecosystem (de Sousa et al, 2012). Contamination of aquatic environment by dyes has also been shown to have toxic, carcinogenic, and aesthetic effects on humans (Ratna and Pahdi, 2012).…”
