Adsorption of Crystal Violet onto Adsorbents Derived from Agricultural Wastes: Kinetic and Equilibrium Studies

Abstract: Suitability of adsorbents derived from groundnut shell (GS) and bean pod (BP) in removing crystal violet from aqueous solution was evaluated in a series of batch experiments. Findings reveal that the points of zero charge (PZC) of GS and BP are 3.50 and 3.00 respectively. Findings also show that GS and BP exhibit maxima adsorption at pH values of 6.00 and 5.00 respectively. For both GS and BP, pseudo-second order model gives the best fit for the sorption kinetic data while Freundlich isotherm gives the best fi… Show more

“…Similarly, the values of R 2 for MB and SF-O elucidated that the empirical data obtained conveniently to the D-R isotherm (Fig. 12, 13) and Table (2). The removal of MB and SF-O on DML is a physical process inasmuch the valuable of free energy (E) accessed were found to be < 8 kJ mol -1 [28].…”

“…Water contamination by dyes is a widereaching problematic essentially in textile manufacturing where sizable quantities of dye effluents secede from the dying process [1]. It has been displayed that about 1× 10 4 diverse textile dyes with a predictable annually outputting of 7×10 5 metric tons are commercially affordable worldwide [2]. A multitude of dyes are complex organic molecules and are opposed to climate, the action of detergents, etc.…”

“…Furthermore, the value of 1/n>1 indicates that the adsorption of CV onto PNSB adsorbent is highly favorable. The mechanism of CV adsorption on many other adsorbents has also followed the Freundlich adsorption isotherm [13][14][15]. …”

“…Crystal violet is a triphenylmethane dye with poor degradability and carcinogenic inhaled or ingested (Saeed et al 2010;Ahmad 2009); it is widely used in textile industries because of its low cost and high solubility in water (Ait Ahsaine et al 2018). Medically, it is used as an antiseptic with a selective action on gram-positive organisms, also for the treatment of burns, boils, carbuncles and mycotic skin infections (Akinola and Umar 2015).…”
