Containerization

Abstract

Containerization is an integral feature of globalization. It has facilitated global trade by providing an efficient means of transporting goods intermodally. This has necessitated the transformation of ports and their operations, which has had both negative and positive consequences for port cities. Some of the most important developments have taken place at sea, where an expansion of the scope of services and the size of ships has given rise to new network configurations. Containerization is also spreading inland as an essential part of logistics services.
