Consumer Connectivity in a Complex, Technology-enabled, and Mobile-oriented World with Smart Products

Abstract: Today's consumers are immersed in a vast and complex array of networks. Each network features an interconnected mesh of people and firms, and now, with the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), also objects. Technology (particularly mobile devices) enables such connections, and facilitates many kinds of interactions in these networks-from transactions, to social information sharing, to people interfacing with connected devices (e.g., wearable technology). We introduce the POP-framework, discuss how People, Obj… Show more

“…There is a wide variety of emerging technologies that allow the hybridization of the physical and digital world, which gives rise to the concept of a cyber-physical system as an object with a double existence (physical and real) [60] and another digital twin (digital and virtual) [61]. From among these, it is worth highlighting the sensors in products and processes [62], embedded systems [63], robotics and automation [63], additive manufacturing [64], artificial vision and intelligence [65], augmented and virtual reality [66], simulation and virtualization of production [65,67], connectivity of the company with the consumer [68], social networks [69,70], electronic commerce [71], cyber-security [72], advanced cloud computing [73], and digital twin and collaborative platforms [74]. Following an overview, we will proceed to establish a review and a study of the main technologies.…”

“…In this paper, the experiments under each environment and parameter were repeated 50 times, and then we took the mean value of the simulation result. Drawing on the work in [49], we assumed the total number of users was 100 in the simulation experiments. The average degree was 6.…”

“…The development of multichannel strategies is indeed based on new technologies, such as personal computers and personal communication devices (smartphones). Their common feature is to offer a high level of connectivity to consumers (Verhoef et al, 2017), often summarized by the well-known term ATAWAD: "Any Time, Any Where, Any Device. "…”

“…It is therefore this question of consumer experience that must be at the heart of a 20 marketing policy. By systematically comparing prices and obtaining informed advice from peers in their social universe, consumers develop sometimes surprising migration trajectories that need to be explored (Chiu et al, 2011;Park and Lee, 2017;Verhoef et al, 2017).…”
