execute the face validation of the educative manual for head and neck cancer patients submitted to radiotherapy. Methodological and descriptive research. The sample consisted of 11 patients, divided in four groups according to the instruction level. An Agreement Rate of at least 80% was considered to guarantee the validation of the material with regard to its semantic analysis. The items addressed in the evaluation tool of the educative manual were divided in five blocks: objectives, organization, writing style, appearance and motivation. Only one item, related to the cover of the material, obtained an Agreement Rate < 80% and was reformulated based on the participants' suggestions. All other items were considered appropriate and/or totally appropriate in the five blocks proposed: objectives -100%, structure and presentation -93.93%, writing style -95.45%, appearance -97.72%, and motivation -93.50%. The analysis of the face validation of the educative manual proposed demonstrated that it is apt for use as a guide during the nursing consultation, in order to support nursing care for head and neck cancer patients submitted to radiotherapy.

RESUMOObjetivo: conhecer a atuação dos enfermeiros em serviços de radioterapia. Método: estudo com delineamento transversal, descritivo com abordagem quantitativa, desenvolvido de junho a julho de 2015. Amostra composta por oito enfermeiros. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário estruturado e analisados por meio de estatística descritiva. Resultados: foi verificado que o enfermeiro não fica restrito apenas à assistência, atua na supervisão da equipe de enfermagem, monitora o processo de trabalho, elabora plano de ação, seleciona materiais e equipamentos, agenda as consultas. Além disso, foi possível observar a importância da consulta de enfermagem para a individualização do cuidado e efetivação do tratamento para o paciente. Conclusão: constata-se que para um bom andamento do serviço de radioterapia, existe a necessidade de uma equipe de enfermagem capacitada com condições de lidar com a complexidade e exigências que esta modalidade de tratamento demanda. Palavras-chave: Neoplasias; radioterapia; enfermagem; assistência de enfermagem. ABSTRACT:Objective: to ascertain nurses' role in radiotherapy services. Method: in this quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study, data were collected by structured questionnaire from a sample of eight nurses, from June to July 2015, and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: it was found that nurses are not restricted to care alone, but supervise nursing staff, monitor the work process, prepare action plans, select materials and equipment, and schedule appointments. We also observed that nursing appointments were important in individualizing care and effecting patient treatment. Conclusion: for the radiotherapy service to function properly requires a trained nursing staff in a position to deal with the complexity and demands that this type of treatment. Método: estudio con diseño transversal, descriptivo con enfoque cuantitativo, desarrollado entre junio y julio de 2015. La muestra se compone de ocho enfermeras. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de un cuestionario estructurado y analizados mediante estadística descriptiva. Resultados: se encontró que el enfermero no se limita sólo a la asistencia, trabaja en la supervisión del personal de enfermería, supervisa el proceso de trabajo, elabora un plan de acción, selecciona materiales y equipos, programa citas. Además, se observó la importancia de la consulta de enfermería para la individualización de la atención y el tratamiento eficaz para el paciente. Conclusión: Se observa que, para una buena marcha del servicio de radioterapia, se necesita un personal de enfermería capacitado que pueda hacer frente a la complejidad y exigencias que este tipo de tratamiento pide.

Background: Because it is a complex disease, cancer requires a comprehensive approach in treatment, since tumor cells tend to be very aggressive and uncontrollable. In order to obtain cure or improvement in the standard of living of the cancer patient, different therapeutic modalities are available, among them, radiotherapy, which has improved the prognosis of many neoplasms.Objective: This study aimed to know the performance of nurses in radiotherapy services. Methods and Results:It is a cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study with a quantitative approach, developed from June to July 2015. The study sample was composed of eight nurses. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire, analyzed through descriptive statistics. It was verified that nurses are not only restricted to care, buy they work in the supervision of the nursing team, monitor the work process, elaborate the action plan, select materials and equipment, schedule the consultations. In addition, it was possible to observe the importance of the nursing consultation for the individualization of the care and effectiveness of the treatment for the patient. Conclusion:It is observed that for a good progress of the radiotherapy service, there is a need for a trained nursing team with conditions to deal with the complexity and requirements that this modality of treatment demands. The World Health Organization (WHO) points out that, 27 million incident cases and about 17 million deaths from this disease are expected in the year 2030 [1]. It is a major cause of mortality, being a major public health problem. In Brazil, estimates for 2016/2017 point to the occurrence of 600 thousand new cases of cancer [2].Because it is a complex disease, cancer requires a comprehensive approach in treatment, since tumor cells tend to be very aggressive and uncontrollable [3].
