Construction of Ecological Security Pattern and Identification of Ecological Restoration Zones in the City of Changchun, China

Abstract: Identification of crucial regions in need of ecological conservation and restoration based on ecological security patterns is of utmost importance for ecological restoration across national land space with regard to China’s promotion of ecological civilization. Using Changchun, the capital of northeast China, as an illustration, the study chooses ecological sources based on the importance of ecosystem services, builds an ecological security pattern using circuit theory, and organizes critical regions for ecolo… Show more

“…The northern portion of Qiqihar city and the central portion of Suihua city are the dominant areas, and engineering measures, such as land preparation, should be carried out according to the optimal pattern of ecological security based on meeting the total amount of permanent basic farmland requirements. (4) L–H spaces should be strictly regulated, land sprawl should be regulated, and priority should be given to the establishment of green spaces that occupy significant spatial structures [ 80 ]. To offset the impact of human activities on the ecosystem, a specific ecological buffer zone can be moderately preserved in the L–H region (e.g., the northern portion of Suihua City) by constructing country parks and nature reserves.…”

“…Landscape connectivity can reflect the level of connectivity between core patches within a region, which is key to maintaining ecosystem stability and wholeness, and is an important indicator of landscape patterns and ecological processes (An et al, 2021;Xu et al, 2022). In this study, Conefor 2.6 and Conefor Inputs for the ArcGIS plug-in were used to calculate Probability of Connectivity and patch significance index (dPC) for each patch to screen the initially identified ecological source sites.…”

“…Due to these characteristics of the circuit theory, studies of ecological security pattern based on the research paradigm of "source identificationresistance surface constructioncorridor extraction" have generally included the identification of ecological obstacle pointsirreplaceable key areas in the corridor, and ecological "pinch points", areas in the ecological corridor that impede the flow of organisms (McRae et al, 2008;McRae et al, 2012;Cushman et al, 2013). Ecological pinch points and ecological obstacle points are both key aspects for ecological restoration of territorial space. The findings contributed to forming a more perfect research paradigm of "source identificationresistance surface constructioncorridor extractionkey point identification" (Xu et al, 2022;Wu et al, 2023). While many studies have been performed, fewer studies have addressed ecological restoration of territorial space at the county scale based on the framework of "source identificationresistance surface constructioncorridor extractionkey point identification".…”

“…In recent years, the optimization of the ecological security pattern focuses on ecological restoration (Peng, et al, 2017). The concept of zoning for ecological restoration primarily stems from ecological zoning, where zoning is a prerequisite for carrying out ecological restoration (Xu, et al, 2023). With the ecosystem as the research focus, the primary goal is to enhance ecological functionality (Gao and Yang, 2015).…”

“…With the ecosystem as the research focus, the primary goal is to enhance ecological functionality (Gao and Yang, 2015). The issues, such as conflicting ecological elements within ecosystems, have become prominent and Chinese ecological restoration places more emphasis on the integrity of ecological processes, aiming for holistic coordination and governance of ecological space from multiple perspectives (Gao and Yang, 2015;Chen, et al, 2023a;Xu, et al, 2023). Current researches on ecological restoration zones often focus on indicators from natural ecology and social development to construct a comprehensive evaluation system (Liu, et al, 2021).…”
