Construct and criterion validity of the DUFS and DEFS4 in Lithuanian patients with coronary artery disease

Abstract: The construct validity and criterion validity of the DUFS and DEFS were confirmed in a Lithuanian sample of cardiac patients. The construct validity of the MFI was also supported and this fatigue measure can be used in Lithuanian settings of clinical practice and research.

“…The scale has been tested for construct validity, internal consistency, and criterion-related validity in cardiac patients in a Dutch [12] and a Lithuanian sample. [24] Prevalence of fatigue General fatigue and mobility-related fatigue are relatively prevalent in the general older population. A Danish study based on data from the 1914-cohort from the Glostrup Aging Studies showed that the proportion of men and women with mobility-related fatigue increased with age from age 70 to age 85.…”

“…Exertion fatigue, defined as fatigue directly related to the performance of daily activities in the spheres of household, personal hygiene, and social life, was evaluated using the self-report Dutch Exertion Fatigue Scale (DEFS) (28). The DEFS consists of nine items that are rated on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 0 to 4.…”

“…The time frame is the last few days. MFI scales have shown good psychometric properties across several chronic diseases and languages [34,35,36] and good internal consistency (Cronbach's α across scales ranging from 0.80 to 0.94). In the current study, Cronbach's α yielded 0.72-0.84, which were all above what is minimally acceptable given the scale length and the average inter-item correlation [37,38,39,40,41].…”
