Configuration and Evolution of the Landscape from the Geomorphological Map in the Natural Parks Batuecas-Quilamas (Central System, SW Salamanca, Spain)

Abstract: This work performs a geomorphological mapping procedure applied to the evolutionary analysis of the landscape, such that it groups different geomorphological units photointerpreted in large geomorphological domains. This allows greater utility and ease of identification and application in the different multidisciplinary studies of environmental geology and the evolution of the landscape. Geomorphological analysis allows the investigation of the reconstruction of the relief from the processes that have shaped t… Show more

“…The area is characterized by little sharp reliefs with flat and elevated surfaces and staggered plains in its central part. It is surrounded by a peripheral mountainous border with heights between 600 and 800 m. The study area occupies an area of 3200 km 2 in the Northeast part of the Province of Salamanca (Figure 1) The objective of this work was the realization of a detailed geomorphological cartography that allows different morphologies to be identified, and establishes the succession of depositional terraces of the Tormes River to determine the relationships among the different terraces and the time periods in which they were deposited [1][2][3][4]. From longitudinal and cross-sectional profiles, the different terraces of the same basin (Duero Basin) and similarly behaving basins (Tagus Basin) were altimetrically correlated.…”

“…Interpretation of the landscape from a geomorphological cartography permits us to study its past, present, and future evolution [72]. With geomorphology, the general principles that explain the geomorphological processes are established, and with this, the processes from which the forms of individual landscapes are derived [60,73], always based on a few decidedly deterministic postulates [74].…”

The evolutionary analysis of the landscape using geomorphological cartography generates synthetic cartographic representations that can facilitate environmental and sustainable territorial planning, portraying the landscape as a resource to value and preserve [72].…”

“…Stage 2: Preparation of the map of Geomorphological Units from existing works [30][31][32][33][34], especially the cartographic ones that bring us closer to the different units of the relief [4,5], then performing the geomorphological photointerpretation and the necessary field survey.…”
