“…Rates of risky behavior were much higher than in the general population, and these higher rates of risk do translate into high rates of unintended pregnancy as well as STD infection in this population (Canterbury et al 1998;Morris et al 1998;St Lawrence, et al 1999). Researchers have developed a large body of knowledge concerning the correlates and predictors of the risky sexual behaviors of this population (Canterbury et al 1998; Barthlow et al 1995;Magura et al 1994).…”

“…In addition, their involvement with the criminal justice system presents an opportunity to access them for risk-reduction intervention (Magura, Shapiro, & Kang, 1994;Robertson & Levin, 1999). The primary goal of this study was to examine the linkages between personality measures hypothesized to be related to risk behavior (e.g., impulsive sensation seeking and future orientation) and risky behaviors in a group of adjudicated adolescents.…”

“…Again, this finding contradicts prevailing trends found in other data. Incarcerated youth have been characterized as having inconsistent condom use, although these youth are amenable to intervention programs that promote condom use (Magura, Shapiro, & Kang, 1994). About one-third of Los Angeles males were in jail at some point over the two year follow-up period.…”
