The aim of the research was corona discharge treatment of meta—(mAr) and para—(pAr) aramid fabrics to increase the surface free energy (SFE) and its polar component, without deterioration of the thermal properties. The fabrics were activated by plasma with 41.0, 71.75, and 102.5 J/cm2 energy. The SFE increased from 40.38 to 70.82 mJ/m2 for mAr and from 44.06 to 70.01 mJ/m2 for the pAr fabric, the polar component increased from 15.33 to 34.68 mJ/m2 and from 5.37 to 33.43 mJ/m2, respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry temperatures have changed and ΔHDeg for both fabrics increased. The weight loss is lower by 3.2% and 0.3% for the highest energy, respectively, for mAr and pAr fabrics.

Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) becomes a great concern for massive natural resoure comsumption and a huge construction waste. Many researchers have carried out numerous investigations on the durability of RAC. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the achievements and share them with researchers involved in the study on RAC. In this paper, the main durability index and test methods have been reviewed from worldwide literature. Secondly, the durability of RAC including chloride diffusion, freezing and thawing resistance, abrasion resistance, absorption, drying shrinkage and carbonation has been summarized based on literature study. Thirdly, the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) has been applied to find the most critical factor determining the durability of RAC compared with that of natural aggregate concrete (NAC). At last, new types of recycled concrete have been discussed and compared with NAC.

Contact angle measurements, using the dynamic contact angle and Washburn methods, were taken for 100% aramid and viscose fabrics, as well as for 50:50 aramid and viscose mixed fabrics of different structure. Based on the measurements of contact angles wetted with hexane, water and formamide, the fabric surface free energy was calculated by means of three (Owens-Wendt, Wu and van Oss-Chaudhury-Good) theoretical models. The aim of the study was to analyze the usefulness of the dynamic contact angle and Washburn methods for assessing surface properties of textile materials, using selected measurement liquids, and to relate the results to the further investigation of actual wetting and penetration of model fabrics designed to protect against hazardous or irritant liquids. It was found that both methods are useful for determining the fabric surface free energy values; the Washburn method is characterized by the high practical value in assessing surface properties of textile materials, regardless of their structure, whereas the dynamic contact angle method allows for more thorough observation of how the fabric structure of the same raw material composition exerts its effect on the wettability and surface free energy value.
