Conclusive editorial on non-destructive techniques for cultural heritage

Abstract: scientists. The meeting was characterised by presentations and discussions about recent advances, research results and perspectives, as well as open problems and incoming activities where new technological developments are required. The increasing importance of non-invasive diagnostic techniques was highlighted, by putting into evidence how they allow for getting information about problems related to very different fields. Just to give an example among the many, one (Calderón et al. 2020) deals to reveal techn… Show more

“…For accelerator science and in general, for UHV applications, there is a strong interest in exploiting metal AM production processes for prototyping and production of special components. To point out possible relationships between metal AM machine configurations and UHV performances, it is necessary the availability of non-destructive techniques (Fernandez et al 2020) able to provide microstructural information about the parts of interest, possibly being able to point out also the differences between parts produced with metal AM and conventional machining. We performed such a study on the exit snout of MACHINA, the first transportable particle accelerator.…”

“…Among others, the Cultural Heritage Network of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN-CHNet) [13][14][15] is engaged in the development of instruments, methods and techniques for applications in the heritage science field [16][17][18][19]. With this intent, the INFN-CHNet collaboration has developed its own MA-XRF scanner.…”
